we’ve made the switch to dr. otero from malpass as angel’s primary oncologist. this topic has been on her mind since day one. but after many sessions with malpass we’ve made the gentle transition to dr. otero. angel feels really good about this move, but malpass and his amazing skills will be hard at work, and daily visits are promised. our first experience with dr. otero was last friday, and his appearance couldn’t have been timed better. his first concerns were pretty rough, actually one of the most difficult so far. since the folfox wasn’t working, he thought that angel had a two week window of opportunity for something to happen before, well basically before the sh*t hits the fan. tough to swallow, but brutally honesty. we talked it out, he shared his ideas, explained in detail other options, he shared that there might be research with dr gold at swedish, uw, and cedar sinai in l.a. he explained in detail about his thoughts about introducing cetuximab, a weekly antibody infusion, and how it wouldn’t hurt to start being more aggressive. he has also advocated for boosting her appetite, and physical therapy. his holistic approach is well noted by angel, along with his exiting comment, “i know how it would feel like, and how i would want to be treated for this disease.”
today is the first time my heart, mind and the hospital room has felt so light.
angel’s bilirubins went down some more to 3.0! let’s keep this trend going!
one last thing, i thank you erik for explaining the bilirubins, i hold back from explaining in detail about the medical stuff so not to mix it all up and confuse ya’all! ;)
