at 6am angel got up to use the bathroom and experienced severe shortness of breath, she explains it as suffocating! she woke me up and we switched oxygen tanks between the pump machine to the compressed tank. not much relief. her lips were gray-red at this point and panic had set in her eyes. i was terrified. i called 911 and within minutes the fire truck sirens could be heard, and the first response team entered and performed their work. a few minutes later the paramedics showed up. surreal to have all this happening in our own bedroom. i’ve once imagined this scene when we were old and gray. she was rushed off at 7am to virginia mason. once there, angel’s vitals were stable, and her labs came back normal, except for her platelet number which came back in the 70’s, vs 117 from just three days prior! worrisome. malpass got word, and a night on the 15th floor was ordered. angel was set to stay a night regardless of what malpass would’ve said. she knows her body well, and has proven this time and time again. they will monitor her throughout the night, and hopefully come up with a decent explanation for the drop in platelet level. every time her levels were this low, she had reactions to the other anticoagulants. i just hope after all the fear, stress and then rejoicing of getting our hands on the fondaparinux, that she is not allergic to it now!
she is sleeping now, and i am going to settle in for another night.
