angel is discharged! i am discharge, toni and lan are too! yay!
they drove off from the hospital at 4:15, and i headed to the pharmacy. wow, and i hit the jackpot! two paper bags of goodies that will sustain angel for the month. contents of lovenox (one-time courtesy of virginia mason through their sweet-charity funds, and then zip, nada. no more charities for us :(. it reminded me of the scene towards the end of the good-fellas when paulie turned his back on henry, after handing him a lousy $3500 to last him for a lifetime. i realize this is a strange comparison, but it’s sort of sad that virginia mason has turned a portion of her back on us) anyways boo hoo, but i am thankful for their contribution.
after two hours and some confusion at the pharmacy, i was finally free to go home. i was excited. last night i ran home and cleaned the house, including a little floor washing, and the bathroom fixtures. yea, i’m a beeyach, but only angel’s.
shortly after they drove off, i called angel. i asked how she was and she replied that they are on their way to cali with a guy name jerry, cruising down highway 101. what a babe.
this morning at the hospital, angel wasn’t feeling that great, or at least good enough to be discharged. she thought at first that another night was needed. especially since chemo was set up for tuesday morning. it just seemed to make sense to the both of us. stay. sleep. chemo . but dr ko and lee explained in detail and reassured angel that today’s discharge is a good thing. the antibiotics will help with her pneumonia, along with a couple nebulizer prescriptions, an inhaler, and an in-home oxygen set up. the machine is pumping away right now. it processes air from the environment, so no pressure tanks as i thought initially. she also has a big backup in case the electricity should fail, and a couple portable tanks when angel’s out at the discotech. i offered that we could all wear the nose intake tube when we all go out since she felt sad that she would look ‘sick’.
i return home to a big dude named john, the home oxygen delivery specialist. bit of a lonely kinda guy, who managed to have some fun with us, but dang he talked so much. at one point, i motioned a throat cut to toni to stop talking to him so he might leave soon. i’m kidding, he was a nice man, really. the set up is great and angel will benefit from the forced oxygen.
angel was mostly in bed, on pain control, dazed in and out. i am so thankful that toni and lan were here. lan is two quarters away from graduating from the nurse program from seattle u. she’s finding this is good practice, and a helpful hand for angel and myself. she’s going to make many patients happy. toni is just rock solid and is a know how kinda gal when it comes to rescue and paramedic sorts of things. angel and i have always kidded around that if our kid were to ever break a bone, it would have to be with toni. joking aside, it’s how confident we are of her abilities.
i just heard this story from the three girls which i thought was super cool. angel’s name that’s written on the patient chart along with other patients at the hospital. the nurses have a first-come-first serve basis of their choice of patient they want to care for during their shift. well, angel’s name was completely full! i’m sort of convinced i played a part in that too ;). that helped make my day. angel rules, and ya’all better step off! ;)
lan’s spending the night and going to chemo with us in the morning. we are off to bed, rest is needed by all.
