vacation and the emergency roomViews: 41

this is a copy of the email i just sent out to family. i will update as things progress.

“hey guys,
not to worry too much, but i just wanted to update you about angel. we arrived at ocean shores yesterday, and this morning angel was complaining more so about a pain in her right leg. this pain started about three days ago, but she and the nurse at virginia mason assumed it was just sore muscle. but after a call to virginia mason this morning, we rushed to gray’s harbor medical center where the doctor performed an ultrasound and found a large blot clot above the knee and below her pelvis. he says it’s been there for some time, and that it can be a normal occurrence to chemo. she and i will stay the night here in aberdeen so they can flush out this clot and thin her blood. it’s a process that takes a while, and can only be done naturally as her body does the work. we will be on our way back to susan and craig’s tomorrow and continue our relaxing vacation.”

5:59 pst
angel will be staying at the hospital until friday, or until the blood thinner meds kick in. also wanted to post an email response from our friend paul who is a resident doctor, his explanation is pretty much what the doctor is working on to keep this blood clot under control, and additional info:

“Anyhow, I hope things are well and she is tolerating the heparin OK. Then I guess she goes on Coumadin for a few months hey? These blood clots have to be treated carefully so that they don’t cause further problems. Blood clots are a shitty complication of cancer. Mostly cause you have to be treated over a few months and coumadin interacts with many drugs, all things the docs will worry about and you should only be curious about…you’ve got enough to keep your focus: getting better!”
